Joy in Motion is an exploration of the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual facets of tango, swing, salsa, and other improvised partner dances. Based on the idea that these facets are not only connected but interdependent, Joy in Motion focuses on uniting spirit and movement in the dance. Embracing this unity on the dance floor encourages movement, partnerships, and communities that are as dynamic and alive as the personalities that compose it.
Every form of improvised partner dance – from tango to salsa to swing – has its own unique dance culture. The aim of Joy in Motion is to explore the intangible qualities these dances share while honoring the differences that make each form one of a kind. Knowledge and inspiration are drawn from a variety of disciplines to find both complexity and wholeness in these forms.
